Job Description
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with developmentally appropriate instruction in physical education to promote lifelong fitness, physical skills, health awareness, and teamwork. Foster an environment that supports student development in physical, mental, and social domains.
Qualifications
Education & Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate for Physical Education (Grades 6–12 or All Level PE)
CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred)
Special Knowledge & Skills:
Thorough understanding of physical education TEKS for secondary grades
Knowledge of instructional best practices in physical fitness and athletic training
Strong behavior management, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to implement age‑appropriate activities that encourage active participation
Experience:
Successful completion of student teaching or internship in secondary PE (required)
Prior experience teaching middle or high school students (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Strategies:
Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with district curriculum and TEKS.
Create opportunities for students to develop motor skills, fitness knowledge, and personal wellness goals.
Integrate sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership skills into daily instruction.
Use technology and instructional tools to enhance student engagement and progress.
Classroom and Student Management:
Establish and maintain a safe, organized learning environment.
Ensure proper supervision and safe use of all equipment and activity areas.
Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies and the Student Code of Conduct.
Monitor student participation and provide guidance to support improvement.
Assessment and Evaluation:
Assess student progress through formal and informal methods; adjust instruction based on data.
Provide feedback and maintain open communication with students and parents.
Maintain accurate records for grades, attendance, fitness testing, and equipment inventory.
Compliance and Collaboration:
Stay current with changes to curriculum, instructional strategies, and state regulations.
Collaborate with other teachers, coaches, and staff to support student performance.
Assist in developing a campus culture of wellness and fitness.
Support extracurricular athletic programs when applicable.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise student aides, student assistants, or volunteers as assigned.
