Job Description
Primary Purpose: Provide students in grades 9–12 with engaging and industry-aligned instruction in Digital Media, Commercial Photography, and related fields in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications (AAVTC) career cluster. Prepare students for success in college, careers, and industry certification through project-based learning, technical skill development, and creative exploration using professional digital tools.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (required for standard certification)
Valid Texas teaching certificate with one or more of the following:
Technology Applications EC–12
Art EC–12 (if focusing on creative design aspects)
Trade and Industrial Education 6–12 with demonstrated expertise in commercial photography or digital media
AAVTC Composite Certification or related CTE certification
District of Innovation Local Certification option available based on industry experience and district approval
Must meet CTE certification requirements through TEA, including work experience if applying under a Trade & Industrial pathway
ESL Supplemental certification preferred (may be required based on student population)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of TEKS for courses such as Digital Media, Commercial Photography I & II, Principles of AAVTC, and Practicum in AAVTC
Technical proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere Pro), DSLR photography, videography, and post-production software
Knowledge of media production, design principles, photo composition, digital editing, branding, and copyright standards
Ability to manage a creative classroom, studio space, and multimedia lab
Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
Familiarity with industry-based certifications such as Adobe Certified Professional (ACP) or related credentials preferred
Experience:
At least two years of industry experience in digital media, commercial photography, or related field preferred
Experience in secondary teaching or in leading creative/technical student projects is highly desirable
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Program
Teach courses such as Digital Media, Commercial Photography I & II, Principles of AAVTC, and Practicum in AAVTC.
Guide students through real-world projects that build digital portfolios and career-ready skills.
Provide instruction in photography fundamentals, digital design, image editing, studio lighting, and visual storytelling.
Support students in earning industry certifications such as Adobe Photoshop or Premiere Pro.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of digital trends and techniques relevant to course content.
Technology & Equipment Management
Manage inventory and maintenance of cameras, computers, lighting kits, printers, and other multimedia equipment.
Implement and enforce digital safety, equipment handling, and data management protocols.
Maintain lab functionality and manage student use of devices, software, and storage space.
Student Growth and Development
Monitor and assess student performance using project rubrics, digital portfolios, critiques, and self-assessment.
Provide opportunities for students to exhibit their work in campus galleries, digital platforms, and competitive events (e.g., UIL, SkillsUSA, TSA, VASE).
Promote CCMR goals by helping students explore careers in media, design, and photography through practicum or internship opportunities.
Program Development and Communication
Collaborate with campus/district CTE staff to align program goals with industry needs and community partnerships.
Communicate regularly with parents, administrators, and industry partners about student progress and program opportunities.
Promote student recruitment and retention through outreach events, exhibitions, and CTE pathway presentations.
Professional Growth and Compliance
Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional practices and stay current in digital media trends.
Maintain compliance with all TEA, CTE, and district documentation, safety, and certification guidelines.
Participate in CTE department meetings, curriculum development, and advisory committee work as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise students in lab/studio settings, during school events, or while using professional equipment
May supervise student aides, interns, or practicum participants
Working Conditions: Maintain emotional control under stress. Prolonged use of computers and electronic devices. Frequent standing, walking, and demonstration of photography or editing processes. Occasional lifting and setup of media displays, lighting, and camera equipment. Irregular hours may be required for event coverage or student projects.
