Job Description
Primary Purpose:

Manage an IEP caseload, collaborate with peers, and provide instruction enabling students to meet their IEP goals and objectives for students enrolled in West Valley Virtual Academy and West Valley secondary schools.

Essential Functions:

Provide equity, personalized learning, and inclusive strategies, including UDL techniques.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of reading instruction and best practices for dyslexia and other reading disabilities.

Coordinate use of PAES lab for transition program students.

Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior while maintaining a positive learning environment.

Adapt curriculum, materials, and teaching techniques to meet individual student needs.

Support inclusive learning environments with research‑based strategies for self‑regulation, executive functioning, and SEL.

Participate in special education and building meetings.

Design and conduct valid assessments for IEPs and develop comprehensive IEPs with the team.

Collect frequent data to monitor student progress and keep paperwork legally compliant.

Develop and implement behavior plans and provide positive behavioral support.

Ensure safety precautions, including positioning and transferring students safely.

Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and specialists.

Communicate regularly with parents about progress and strategies.

Engage in co‑planning with general education teachers.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Valid Washington State teaching certificate with special education endorsement.

Valid Washington State CTE teaching certification in V190707 Family and Community Services or V200002 Family and Consumer Sciences Education.

6,000 hours of occupational experience in the Family and Community Services industry (or proof of such experience); complete CTE certification within 18 months of hire.

Meet "highly qualified" standards under NCLB.

Strong classroom management skills and evaluations.

Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and state assessments.

Experience or willingness to be trained in Safety Care, Right Response, and other required programs.

Success with non‑traditional learners and at‑risk students.

Capability to design and implement specialized instruction for students with deficits in reading, writing, math, and functional skills.

Willingness to work online and across multiple buildings.

Experience teaching multilingual learners and training in best practices for English proficiency.

Bilingual preferred.

Working Relationships & Conditions
Communicates regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff. Works in classroom/office setting; may stand/sit for prolonged periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and handle various physical tasks.

Continuing Education/Training

Current CPR and First Aid certificates.

Current Restraint and De‑Escalation certificate.

Participation in district and building professional development.
