Job Description
REPORTS TO:
Principal
SUPERVISES:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
PURPOSE:
To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage Instructional Time:
Teacher prepares materials and starts lesson quickly, keeping students on task.
Manage Student Behavior:
Establishes rules for participation, movement, and transitions, monitors behavior, enforces consistency while maintaining dignity.
Instructional Presentation:
Begins with review, introduces objectives, delivers clear content, provides examples and demonstrations, maintains brisk pace and smooth transitions, summarizes lesson.
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:
Sets standards, circulates for checks, uses oral and written assessments.
Instructional Feedback:
Gives timely feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work to encourage growth.
Facilitating Instruction:
Uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, aligns plan with curriculum, records performance.
Interacting Within the Educational Environment:
Treats all students fairly, interacts with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:
Carries out non‑instructional assignments, follows policies, participates in professional development.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Degree in education or related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements:
Able to use classroom tools and move light objects; consistent with light work.
Data Conception:
Ability to analyze observable data characteristics.
Interpersonal Communication:
Ability to convey information verbally or through signals.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, write, and prepare correspondence and instructional materials.
Intelligence:
Apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions.
Verbal Aptitude:
Communicate effectively in technical or professional language.
Numerical Aptitude:
Use mathematical formulas, perform operations, and apply statistical principles.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Inspect items for proper dimensions.
Motor Coordination:
Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately.
Manual Dexterity:
Handle office equipment and hand tools with minimal coordination.
Color Discrimination:
Differentiate between colors and shades.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Adapt to stress and emergency situations while interacting with people.
Physical Communication:
Talk and hear; communicate via telephone.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Constantly monitor student safety during inclusive activities.
Motivate students.
Maintain a clean, orderly environment.
Perform general clerical duties and operate office machines.
Maintain basic files and records.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships as needed.
