
Child Development Specialist

Pasadena City College is offering a grant‑funded, eleven‑month Child Development Specialist position focused on supporting infants, toddlers, and two‑year‑old children.
Key Responsibilities
Attend to children’s basic needs: feeding, dressing, diaper changing.
Develop and implement educational programs aligned with state learning objectives.
Plan balanced instructional activities, observe, question, and facilitate investigations.
Assess developmental progress and performance; support social, emotional, and physical development.
Conduct orientations for parents and staff; provide guidance to parents.
Mentor child‑development students and coordinate practicum activities.
Organize center events, fundraisers, and maintain classroom supplies.
Maintain compliance with CACFP guidelines and provide documentation for audits.
Teach proper eating habits, personal hygiene, and conduct parent conferences.
Complete need‑assessment forms and monitor inventory.
Determine appropriate actions for emergencies and perform related duties.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Child Development, Education, or related field.
Valid Children’s Center Permit/Child Development Teacher Permit or willingness to obtain one.
At least one year of lead teacher experience in an instructional child‑development program.
Sixteen semester units of general education coursework.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, or related field.
Three years of lead teacher experience in a similar setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Apply early childhood best practices and developmental theory.
Utilize ASL within early childhood setting.
Implement licensing regulations and maintain health/safety standards.
Use assessments, portfolios, and curriculum tools.
Create play‑based curriculum and incorporate NAEYC/CLASS standards.
Maintain CPR/first aid certification.
Manage group dynamics, maintain a safe environment, and communicate effectively.
Demonstrate respect for diversity and maintain records for regulatory compliance.
Physical Abilities and Work Environment
The role requires frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 75 lbs, bending, kneeling, and working around mud, water play, and moderate environmental conditions.
