Position Overview
This grant‑funded, 11‑month position provisions child development services for infants, toddlers, and two‑year‑old children in a classroom setting. Responsibilities include planning and implementing age‑appropriate curriculum, assessing developmental progress, maintaining a safe environment, and collaborating with staff, parents, and district programs.
ESENTIAL DUTIES
Attend to children’s basic needs (feeding, dressing, diaper changing).
Develop and implement educational programs tailored to state learning objectives, including goal setting for each child.
Conduct balanced instructional activities, demonstrations, and work time to encourage observation, questioning, and investigation.
Assess developmental levels, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Provide initial orientations for parents, students, and others regarding center policies.
Mentor field‑practice students in the District’s Child Development Program.
Organize center events and fundraising activities.
Maintain documentation, records, reports, and enrollment materials.
Ensure compliance with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines.
Serve as reference for state auditing agencies (records, tours, assistance).
Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
Coordinate volunteer parents and unclassified staff for lesson planning.
Conduct parent conferences to discuss individual child performance.
Complete Need Assessment Forms and update as necessary.
Monitor inventory of classroom supplies and equipment, requesting additional items as needed.
Determine appropriate actions for classroom emergencies.
Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree in Child Development, Education, or related field.
Current Children’s Center Permit/Child Development Teacher Permit or willingness to apply.
At least one year of lead‑teacher experience in an instructional capacity within a child development program or cooperative education program.
Sixteen semester units of general education (humanities, social sciences, mathematics, science, and English).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Education, or related field.
Three years of lead‑teacher experience in an instructional capacity within a child development program or cooperative education program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Apply early childhood best practices, ages and stages questionnaires, and developmental theory.
Experience with American Sign Language in an early childhood setting.
Implement Community Care Licensing regulations and health/safety measures.
Use child assessments and portfolios for parent conferences and curriculum development.
Create daily, weekly, and monthly play‑based emergent curricula.
Integrate NAEYC Accreditation Standards and Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) 2nd Edition.
Establish infant/toddler environmental rating‑scale‑appropriate environments.
Proficient with general office software and classroom documentation tools.
Maintain CPR and first aid certification.
Lead and manage small groups effectively.
Model appropriate material use and maintain a safe learning environment.
Promote age‑appropriate interactions that foster trust and attachment.
Maintain organized records for regulatory compliance.
Demonstrate respect for diversity.
Manage staffing schedules to maintain ratios and policy compliance.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Build positive relationships with district staff, students, parents, and children.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Essential physical tasks include standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, lifting/carrying objects up to 75 lbs., and operating computers. The work environment is indoor and outdoor, moderate temperature, moderate noise, and frequent contact with children, staff, and parents. Requirements include standing 2.6–5.5 hours, walking 2.6–5.5 hours, and performing other physical duties as required.
