
HR Generalist ( Compliance & HR Project Management)

Position Summary
We’re looking for a detail‑oriented and proactive HR Generalist (Compliance & HR Project Management) to support our Human Resource Department.
Key Responsibilities
HR Compliance
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as industry standards
Monitor and stay current on employment law updates; proactively communicate changes and recommend necessary actions
Maintain a compliance calendar and tracking tools to ensure timely implementation of new legislation
Ensure all HR policies, procedures, forms, and documentation remain compliant and up to date
Oversee new hire reporting, I-9, and E‑Verification processes in partnership with HR Administration
Manage legal posters and GovDocs to ensure all locations remain compliant
Support reporting requirements (e.g., EEO-1, Workplace Notices), and maintain accurate documentation and record retention systems
Policy Development & Documentation
Review, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and related documentation
Collaborate with HR, Legal, and Operations to develop and implement policies for corporate and field locations
Manage onboarding, employment, and policy documentation, ensuring consistency and compliance
Draft and distribute communications related to policy and procedural updates
Maintain minimum wage tracking, processes, and communication
Audits, Risk Mitigation & Legal Support
Conduct internal audits of HR processes, documentation, and practices to ensure compliance
Identify areas of risk and implement corrective actions and process improvements
Support responses to subpoenas, audits, unemployment claims, and other legal inquiries in coordination with legal counsel
Partner with Legal on litigation holds, investigations, and compliance‑related matters
Assist with background check compliance and process updates
Provide support for immigration‑related processes (e.g., H1B requests, ICE procedures)
Employee Relations & Support
Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and HR‑related matters
Manage employee relations issues, conduct investigations, and document findings in alignment with company policies and legal guidelines
Support conflict resolution and promote a positive, compliant workplace culture
Coach and advise managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices
Support performance management processes, including communication and facilitation of performance reviews
HR Operations & Administration
Support onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a compliant and positive employee experience
Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data integrity
Maintain document retention systems and HR reporting/analytics
Support new store openings and store closing processes
Training, Communication & Development
Develop and deliver training materials and programs related to compliance, policies, and HR best practices
Provide ongoing training and coaching to managers and employees
Support professional development and organizational training initiatives
HR Project Management & Continuous Improvement
Lead and support HR projects, including system implementations, process improvements, and policy rollouts
Develop project plans, timelines, and communication strategies
Track progress, identify risks, and provide updates to stakeholders
Collaborate cross‑functionally with departments such as IT, Payroll, Legal, and Operations
Evaluate HR processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and compliance
Assist with data analysis and HR reporting
Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by HR leadership
Qualifications
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Proficient computer skills with work experience in MS Office Applications including Outlook and Word; advanced Excel skills required
Experience managing or supporting cross‑functional projects
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent problem‑solving and interpersonal skills
Detail oriented, strong analytical skills, independent thinking and reasoning ability
Analytical thinking and process improvement
Project planning and execution
Thorough knowledge of employment‑related laws and regulations (multi‑state preferred)
Able to effectively use common office equipment (computer, printer, fax, etc.)
Proficient in English; Spanish is a plus
Education & Experience
High School Diploma required
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
3–5+ years of progressive HR experience, with strong exposure to compliance and project management
Retail experience is preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
HR certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP)
Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG, etc.)
Project management training or certification (e.g., PMP or similar)
Other Skills and Abilities
Insight and the ability to effectively influence others as well as champion and implement ideas
Possess a strong value system with great integrity and demonstrate personal and professional leadership
Ability to remain flexible, re‑prioritize, and respond to changing demands
Ability to analyze reports and employee data information

Must have the ability to troubleshoot HR systems and analyze reports/employee data
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management
Knowledge of Labor Laws and/or OSHA Regulations
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Typical office environment with low‑level noise exposure
Position is based out of the Corporate Office with occasional travel to store locations
Communication with employees and field partners will be primarily conducted via phone and email
