Per Diem Surgical Center Technician

Job Purpose
The Surgical Center Technician handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. This individual has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
Essential Functions and Accountabilities
Knowledge of surgical scrub processes and instrumentation for gynecology and urology procedures.
Follows proper sterility, infection control, and safety precautions in the performance of all duties.
Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
Prepares sterile instrument table.
Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
Transports patients to and from surgical suite.
Assists the surgical team in surgical procedures, including passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
Gathers equipment for cleaning and sterilization.
Orients and mentors new staff members.
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Academic Training
High school diploma or GED
Graduate of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists
Hold a certified surgical technologist credential
Has a minimum two years’ experience as a surgical instrument technician prior to January 1, 2015, with required written employment documentation
Current BLS Certification (required)
Position Requirements/Experience
Previous experience in women's health or reproductive endocrinology and infertility (preferred)
2+ years of experience as a surgical technician (preferred)
Technical Skills
Proficient in surgical instrument knowledge and surgical skill.
Proficient in computer programs including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
