JOB TITLE:

BENEFITS STATUS:

Full-Time, 10 Months

Salary Range (Monthly):

$4,100 - $5,595 WITH BACHELOR'S DEGREE; BASED ON EXPERIENCE

Principal

Supervises:

May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.

Purpose:

To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Duties and Responsibilities
A. Management of Instructional Time:

The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson; starts class quickly; gets students on task quickly; maintains high level of student time‑on‑task.

B. Management of Student Behavior:

The teacher has established rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters, student verbal participation, and movement; monitors behavior in all instructional activities; addresses inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.

C. Instructional Presentation:

The teacher begins with a review, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts in understandable language, provides examples, assigns tasks with high success rates, asks appropriate questions, and summarizes key points.

D. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance:

The teacher sets clear standards, circulates to check performance, uses oral and written checks, and asks questions one at a time.

E. Instructional Feedback:

The teacher provides feedback on in‑class work, encourages growth, gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and follows up after incorrect or no responses.

F. Facilitating Instruction:

The teacher follows an instructional plan aligned with curricular goals, uses diagnostic data to modify objectives, records student performance, and utilizes available resources.

G. Interacting Within the Educational Environment:

The teacher treats all students fairly and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.

H. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties:

The teacher executes non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows laws and policies, and demonstrates continued professional development.

Additional Job Functions
Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Physical Requirements: Must use equipment, exert negligible force, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; Light Work consistent with standing and walking.

Data Conception: Ability to compare and judge characteristics of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak or signal, receive instructions, and convey information.

Language Ability: Ability to read correspondence, prepare reports, forms, and instructional materials.

Intelligence: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate in professional terminology.

Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform calculations, and apply statistical principles.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.

Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle office equipment and hand tools; minimal eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate between colors and shades.

Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to handle people beyond instructions, adapt to stress, and manage emergency situations.

Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear, communicate via telephone.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities.

Motivate students.

Maintain a clean and orderly environment and perform general clerical duties.

Maintain order and discipline in a classroom.

Operate common office machines.

Maintain basic files and records.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by assignments.
