Overview
2026 Fall Student Intern (Volunteer) – 14‑week unpaid internship at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) in Washington, DC. Full‑time (35–40 hrs/week) or part‑time (15–34 hrs/week) positions available. No pay; eligible for Transportation Subsidy benefits.
Summary
The internship offers students, recent graduates, and veterans hands‑on experience in U.S. trade policy. Interns may conduct research, compile statistics, prepare reports and briefing materials, assist with meeting and conference planning, draft correspondence, and attend meetings, hearings, or legislative markup sessions.
Duties
Handle variations from prescribed procedures in solving office administrative problems.
Prepare correspondence, memoranda, and information.
Assist in developing briefing, report, presentation, and conference materials for division/office staff and supervisors.
Provide research, analysis, statistics, and legislative markups.
Assist in day‑to‑day operations through routine and complex tasks.
Qualifications
U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and meeting at least one of the following:
Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university (two‑to‑four‑year institution).
Graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university (two‑to‑four‑year institution) no more than two years prior to the first day of the internship.
A veteran of the United States Armed Forces who possesses a high‑school diploma or equivalent and has served on active duty for any period, no more than two years prior to the first day of the internship.
Note: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, and at least 18 years old must be registered with the Selective Service System unless exempted.
All participants must undergo a security review and drug screening before the program starts and sign the USTR Internship Program Participant Agreement Form.
