JOB TITLE : Security Guard

This is an hourly position with a maximum of 40 hours per week. It is classified as temporary/part‑time and does not include state benefits.
Restrictions on Dual Employment
DNCR does not engage in dual employment for temporary positions. If you are currently employed with another State agency, State university, or the NC National Guard and intend to remain employed with that entity, you may not be considered for temporary work with DNCR.
Description of Work
This is protective, security, and public contact work in the operation of a state facility. Responsibilities include monitoring assigned areas, patrolling property to guard against fire, damage, and theft, observing the activities of persons, and utilizing electronic security systems. Employees provide general information to the public, monitor alarm panels and surveillance systems, and enforce rules of conduct. The position requires walking and standing for extended hours and responding quickly to emergency situations while providing excellent customer service.
Position/Physical Requirements
Walking and/or standing for extended hours.
Must have a valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays.
Management Preferences
Knowledge of standard safety, surveillance and security practices and equipment.
Knowledge of standard methods of reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances, fires, medical and security threats.
General knowledge of computer operation and data entry in various Microsoft programs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High School or GED diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require ability to complete emergency medical technician (EMT) training and meet re‑certification standards as required.
