Job Description
Position:
Elementary Autism Spectrum Disorder Teacher
Location:
McFall Elementary (Young Fives - 1st Grade)
Job Summary:
To plan and deliver engaging instruction that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional development in an elementary learning environment.
Qualifications:
Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate
Endorsements in ASD
Ability to facilitate an IEP and complete necessary paperwork
Possess an understanding of the state and federal special education rules and regulations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators
Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods
Proficiency with educational technology and software
Job Responsibilities:
Instruct students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in academic subjects and social interaction skills.
Develop instructional objectives for each student.
Monitor and evaluate student progress through regular assessments and provide timely feedback.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Assess students' proficiency levels, adapt instruction accordingly, and track progress over time.
Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning, and build strong relationships with students and parents.
Collaborate with special education and general education staff as needed to provide students with IEPs, appropriate accommodations, and supplementary aids.
Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress to parents/guardians.
Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and district initiatives.
Attend staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional strategies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
