Responsibilities
Sabre Systems is currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer - Journeyman (Aerial Targets) to support the Navy's Aerial Targets Program Office (PMA-208) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. PMA-208’s mission is to advance the Navy’s combat readiness by delivering next‑generation threat‑representative targets. This Systems Engineer position supports the Supersonic Aerial Targets IPT, specifically the GQM-163A (“Coyote”) Supersonic Sea‑Skimming Target or the AQM-88A Supersonic Air‑Launched Target (SALT), which are single‑use targets designed to emulate supersonic anti‑ship cruise missiles in support of Developmental Test (DT)/Operational Test (OT) of major DoD weapon systems as well as for fleet training events.
The selected candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
Providing technical guidance and decisions regarding production and upgrades to the platform, unique threat payloads, close coordination with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), sub‑system suppliers and government entities within NAVAIR (NAWCAD, NAWCWD China Lake and Pt. Mugu) and external to NAVAIR.
Leading the team on technical projects, Engineering Investigations, etc. to resolve issues and determine solutions for fielded systems
Generating and releasing Interim Flight Clearances (IFCs) in support of T&E and fleet customer operations at multiple sites
Managing system interfaces and coordinating configuration requirements
Preparing for and executing Technical Reviews and Interchange Meetings; supporting Program Management Reviews
Preparing and releasing the operator’s manuals and their supporting data packages
Supporting program requirements and risk management, mitigation and reporting
Providing engineering analysis to support technical and financial proposals for engineering change proposals (ECPs) for new and upgraded systems
Qualifications
Requirements:
Education:
Must hold a BA/BS degree in a technical field or scientific field from an accredited college or university
Minimum years of experience:
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of recent and relevant experience
Engineering expertise for both can be from weapons, UAS or store integration
Key Skills:
Demonstrated experience in an area of engineering expertise is required.
Must have or be able to obtain an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Desired Skills:
Familiarity with NAVAIR airworthiness, system safety & WSESRB processes desired
Prior desired aerial target experience is preferred but not required
Compensation
At Sabre Systems, LLC, compensation is based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, and contract‑specific requirements; however, final compensation will be determined by individual qualifications and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $95,000.00 - $140,000.00
