
QC Technician

Position Summary
This position is responsible for safely and efficiently sampling and performing routine laboratory testing of aggregate material under the supervision of the Site Manager or other designated personnel. The QC Technician will ensure that all products are consistent with prescribed standards and specifications. This position requires travel from the quarry to other locations.
Responsibilities
Uses prescribed standards to determine chemical and/or physical characteristics for quality control purposes and to determine conformity to specifications
Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instrumentation such as agitators, scales, ovens, and other lab equipment as required
Works around industrial equipment and machinery to obtain material samples from production facilities such as conveyors, stockpiles, rail cars and/or customer sites
Reports and communicates test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required)
Cleans, maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment
Inspects stockpiles for proper construction and haul units for cleanliness
Maintains test data files and records test results in AggQC and/or standardized forms
Investigates and resolves customer technical problems under the guidance of designated personnel as needed
Aids in the training of co-workers as needed
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
Must be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated
Will take an active role in the plant safety initiatives
Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
Willing to cross-train in different areas of production
Must become certified within a reasonable time
Education and Experience
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience to perform the responsibilities associated with this position
Two (2) years' experience in quality control in an aggregate or construction environment preferred
Technical degree preferred
State certified for aggregate field and laboratory testing preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Able to work cooperatively with others toward a shared goal, contribute actively to the team efforts, and possess a positive attitude in working with others as a team
Possess effective coordination, interpersonal and communication skills
Possess strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge and skills
Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to perform duties with minimal supervision
Able to work varying shifts as needed, outdoors, in varying weather conditions
Able to read and interpret gauges/dials and make competent decisions related to processing equipment
Possess basic math skills
Able to obtain state certification
Possess basic computer skills and able to learn new software
Able to adhere to MSHA guidelines and plant safety rules and regulations
Able to ensure a safe work environment by prioritizing safety, then quality, followed by production
