Job Title: Pipefitter
Job Description
The Pipefitter lays out, fabricates, and installs metal structural parts such as plates, bulkheads, and frames to construct or repair ship hulls and decks. This role ensures accurate interpretation of blueprints and precise installation of components to support safe and reliable vessel construction and maintenance.
Responsibilities
Lay out metal structural parts, including plates, bulkheads, and frames, according to specifications and blueprints.
Fabricate metal components using appropriate tools and methods to meet required dimensions and tolerances.
Install metal structural parts to construct or repair ship hulls and decks in accordance with project requirements.
Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and installation procedures.
Measure, cut, align, and fit parts to ensure accurate assembly and secure installation.
Inspect completed work to verify quality, structural integrity, and compliance with specifications.
Collaborate with other trades and team members to coordinate tasks and maintain efficient workflow.
Essential Skills
Proven experience in pipe fitting within a shipbuilding, marine, or industrial environment.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Proficiency in laying out, fabricating, and installing metal structural parts such as plates, bulkheads, and frames.
Solid understanding of structural assembly methods and installation techniques.
Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, alignment, and fitting.
Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively for metal fabrication and installation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Demonstrated competency in blueprint reading as a core qualification.
Experience working on ship hull and deck construction or repair projects.
Strong problem‑solving skills to address fit‑up and alignment issues during installation.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a coordinated team.
Commitment to following safety procedures and industry best practices.
Work Environment
The role takes place in a hands‑on industrial and shipyard setting focused on the construction and repair of ship hulls and decks. Work involves using a variety of hand tools and power tools for metal layout, cutting, and installation. The environment may include working in confined spaces, at varying heights, and around heavy equipment, with a strong emphasis on safe work practices and adherence to established procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
