Coaching Positions – 2026-2027 School Year
JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. Additionally, the coach must model socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment.

Qualifications

Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.

Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).

Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continual examination of new theories and procedures.

Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.

Reporting & Supervisory Relationships
Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with high school principals. The head coach may advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.

Key Responsibilities

Implement all athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools board and ensure staff compliance.

Interpret and consistently apply state and league regulations.

Maintain proper administrative lines and refer all requests or grievances through proper channels; attend required public/staff/departmental meetings.

Develop the program’s philosophy, skills, and techniques; design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings.

Train and encourage staff professional growth; delegate duties and evaluate assistants at season’s end.

Enforce discipline, manage grievances, and promote morale and cooperation.

Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and tournament event preparation.

Oversee documentation for state and system requirements (physical examinations, parental consent, eligibility).

Maintain equipment and facilities: establish budget, recommend equipment specifications, manage inventory, enforce locker-room cleanliness, and protect school property.

Provide student mentorship, monitor academic progress, and offer guidance during practices, games, and travel.

Initiate health and safety programs for injuries, medical attention, and emergencies; complete injury paperwork within 24 hours.

Support athlete educational advancement and college recruitment.

Promote the sport internally and externally; coordinate media releases and maintain positive relationships with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, and volunteers.
