About the Position
The Academic Success Coach assists students in developing skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success in college. The role provides guidance, encouragement, and practical strategies to help students with varying backgrounds excel academically and maximize their college experience. It offers individualized and small-group instruction to strengthen students’ strategic learning skills.
Responsibilities
Build strong one‑on‑one coaching relationships with students by offering academic support.
Conduct academic success coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their performance and develop academic success plans.
Guide students to set short‑term goals, provide constructive feedback, and motivate ongoing progress.
Maintain regular communication with students through in‑person meetings, virtual sessions, emails, or group workshops.
Identify and facilitate connections to academic support services such as Math Café, Tutoring, the Writing Desk, Accessibility Resources, and other opportunities.
Record student interactions, progress reports, and outcomes in compliance with FERPA and provide insights to supervisor on coaching effectiveness.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Operate a computer and other office equipment, distribute materials, and communicate in writing.
Comprehend written and spoken language accurately in person and via telephone.
Move among students to provide individualized support.
Work in a high‑activity instructional service area with frequent multitasking and interruptions.
Spend moderate time working at a computer.
Hours may include occasional night or weekend shifts and assignments may be at any LBCC campus or center location.
Education and Experience
AA/AS degree plus a minimum of two years of full‑time teaching or instructional support experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to use academic coaching best practices and appropriate materials for delivering coaching strategies and interventions.
Excellent human relations, problem‑solving, accountability, and written, oral, and technological communication skills.
Previous college‑level instructional experience preferred.
Employment Requirements
Criminal Background Check – C4.
Compensation via direct deposit.
Oregon residency required at the time work commences.
Completion of a post‑offer criminal background check.
No visa sponsorship is offered.
Salary & Benefits
All Part‑time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule.
Pay incentive available to qualified employees who demonstrate proficiency in conversational Spanish; eligibility for other languages subject to Administrative Rule 6025‑06.
Eligibility to apply for and receive bilingual pay incentives for Spanish and languages other than English follows Administrative Rule 6025‑06.
