Job Description
Devereux Day Academy – Laguna Hills is seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to serve students in an elementary autism classroom.
This role focuses on delivering structured, evidence-based instruction designed to meet the academic, social, communication, and behavioral needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The educator creates a safe, predictable, and supportive learning environment, collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and families, and implements individualized programming that promotes student growth, independence, and positive outcomes within a therapeutic educational setting.
Responsibilities
Deliver structured, evidence‑based instruction for students with ASD.
Create and maintain a safe, predictable classroom environment.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and families.
Implement individualized programming aligned with IEPs and program goals.
Apply strength‑based approaches and positive behavioral supports.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree and a valid California Mild/Moderate Disabilities Educational Specialist Instruction Credential, with either the Added Authorization for Autism Spectrum Disorder (AAAS) or a California Moderate/Severe Disabilities Educational Specialist Instruction Credential.
Experience: Special education instruction required; experience with students on the autism spectrum preferred.
Experience with IEP documents and the IEP process.
Strong classroom management and communication skills.
