Job Description
As a Maintenance Technician at the American Red Cross, you will perform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities or on machines and equipment across multiple trades. The role is based in the Denver area, preferably South of Denver, and is not eligible for relocation assistance. Candidates must reside within 45 minutes of the chapter.
Job Overview
Under general supervision, perform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. Typically perform work in one or more of the maintenance trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Conduct routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. Use hand and power tools to test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair machines and equipment. Use blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
Salary Range (Colorado) : $22.26/hr - $23.73/hr. Salary may vary based on geographic location, skills, experience, and comparison with other employees in the role.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and repair organization’s facilities and properties, including routine tasks and responsibilities. Patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repair or replace concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, paint structures and equipment as needed, install and correct minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural problems. Document installation and repairs as required by regulatory agencies. Install, operate, and service boilers, chillers, motors, fans, pumps, and related mechanical equipment.
Move and store furniture and equipment.
Estimate time and material costs of various projects and requisition new supplies and equipment.
Plant and tend flowerbeds; prune shrubs and trees; water lawns, shrubs, and flowerbeds; spray fertilizer and insecticides; rake and remove fallen leaves; sweep external walkways and staircases; remove snow using power removal equipment or shovel; apply snow-melting chemical as needed on company roads, walkways and outside staircases.
Drive vehicle to other locations.
Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High School or equivalent required. May require a trade license.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Related Experience:
Skills and knowledge of painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work required.
Driver’s License:
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
Skills & Abilities
Previous truck and/or bus driving experience is desirable. Basic computer skills are required. Exemplary interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work on a team. May have on‑call duties.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear. Regularly lift and/or move objects 10–50 lbs frequently; lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs with assistance or the use of a powered industrial truck; push carts weighing up to 250 lbs on flat flooring or ramps; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; occasionally sit and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools and chemicals and solvents. May require climbing ladders for top‑level selection.
