The Transitional Living Program (TLP) provides a supervised group residence and apartment living for homeless youth, ages 16 to 21, to help them make a successful transition to life on their own. The TLP program also serves pregnant and parenting teens and their dependent children. Residents of TLP work closely with staff to establish and achieve goals. Staff assists youth in: accessing needed community services such as medical and mental health care; learning life skills; accessing education and employment services; and identifying supportive adults and mediating conflicts.
Position Summary
The Youth Support Advisor is responsible for assisting program youth with life skills and providing building supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develops trusting and supportive relationship with youth/young adults
Inspects youth rooms/apartments for safety and cleanliness
Maintains accurate up to date documentation of program activities in the program log
Assists in overseeing the daily operation of the building/apartment and ensuring that youth have the resources that they need for daily living (food, heat, etc)
Provide conflict resolution assistance between roommates and other program participants
If needed, provide crisis intervention to youth in need through a referral to the Mobile Crisis Team, or other crisis service provider.
Build positive relationships with the neighbors of the TLP sites
Maintains and observe rules of confidentiality
Attends weekly staff meetings
Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training to enhance professional development
Reads, comprehends, implements and monitors compliance with all state regulations and program policy’s as outlined in the TLP policy and procedure manual.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 20 pounds
Ability to perform life skills (cleaning, stairs, etc)
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with youth
Clearance by the NYS Central Register of Child Abuse and Neglect
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree in Human Service.
Clean, valid NYS driver’s license.
Prior residential experience.
Schedule
Friday through Sunday Overnight, 40 hours per week
