Atlanta Public Schools is looking for a highly qualified Special Education AUTISM Teacher. The candidate must be amotivated individual who has the ability to ensure student success through differentiated instruction. They must create and maintain a climate that promotes respect, tolerance and peaceful problem solving for all students. The district seeks teachers who are innovative, enthusiastic, and prepared to help students for a successful future. This position reports to the School Principal and will be assigned to be physically present in the school building location.
Minimum Requirements
Certification:
Minimum of SRT4-Certification in Adapted Curriculum Special Education
AND
ALL 5 of the Special Education Academic Content Areas (Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and English);
OR
Passed the GACE Basic Skills Assessment or have exemption eligibility (ACT/SAT/GRE scores)
AND
passed the Adapted Curriculum Special Education
AND
the Special Education Academic Content Areas (Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and English).
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required
Work Experience:
Work experience gained through education and certification/license requirements.
Available for face-to-face instruction within the school building with students present

Communication
Instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learner
Student management
Ability to work with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner
Flexibility to adapt between in-person learning environments
Knowledge of school safety & security procedures
Excellent writing and communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Essential Duties
Instruct students with moderate, severe, or profound intellectual disabilities through lectures, discussions, visual aids, and other effective teaching methods
Prepare lessons and outlines for class that effectively cover the material
Administer assessments to monitor student progress and develop an Individualized Educational Plan
Monitor students in the classroom and throughout the school to maintain order
Perform administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and recording grades
Coordinate parent/teacher conferences as needed to review student performance and other issues
Attend faculty meetings and training sessions
Adhere to local, state and national testing procedures
Instruct students in an in-person classroom environment using lectures, discussions, visual aids, and other effective teaching methods
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate progress
Administer and support state and local testing processes and policies
Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment to supplement presentations
Assist students who need extra help with tutoring and provide guidance on adjustments or academic interests
Maintain sanitation standards in the classroom when in-person
Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health
Collaborate with other teachers and administrators to develop, evaluate, and revise academic programs following approved curricula
Coordinate in-person conferences with parents/guardians to review student performance and issues
Attend in-person faculty meetings, teacher training workshops, and conferences to improve professional competence
Maintain accurate student records as required by laws and district policies
Assist with the safe transition of students between locations and with training volunteers
Prompt, regular in-person attendance during regular hours and as needed
Performs other duties as assigned by an administrator or their representative
