
UNM Press Student Production Assistant

Position Summary
UNM Press is looking for a student to help with various editorial and production tasks for 10–15 hours a week. The student will work with UNM Press’s editorial, design, and production manager as well as with the press’s editor and designers. Work will include helping to style and format manuscripts for transmittal, preparing preliminary castoff and cost estimates for books, reviewing art programs, proofreading typeset proofs, preparing reprint materials, and assisting in uploading production-ready files. The student will also take on additional tasks as they come up. UNM Press is located on UNM’s main campus.
Minimum Qualifications
Student should have an interest in books and the publishing industry as well as an eagerness to learn editorial processes; must be dependable, have a professional manner, and have good organizational and interpersonal skills; must be detail oriented and possess strong writing and communication skills; and must be able to think independently and make decisions.
Currently enrolled for a minimum of 3 credit hours for the summer semester or a minimum of 6 credit hours in the fall semester.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an office setting is preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Word is preferred.
Student should be comfortable working unsupervised in the absence of staff.
Fifteen hours per week is preferred. The Press’s office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
