Position Summary
At Kansas City Public Schools, teachers are critical to student success. Through high-quality instruction and collaborative efforts with colleagues, parents, and the community, the goal is to prepare all students for college, careers, and beyond.

Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery

Develop and deliver lesson plans that meet state and district standards, ensuring all students are actively engaged in learning.

Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and technology tools to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.

Continuously assess student understanding and adjust teaching methods to improve outcomes.

Collaborate with instructional coaches, department chairs, and fellow teachers to enhance curriculum alignment and instructional practices.

Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring

Regularly assess and analyze student performance through formative and summative assessments.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive student records, including grades, attendance, and progress reports.

Use data to drive instructional decisions and provide targeted interventions.

Work with various stakeholders to ensure students’ individual needs are met.

Classroom Management and Student Engagement

Establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture where all students feel respected and motivated to succeed.

Manage, supervise and ensure the safety, behavior, and well‑being of students.

Implement effective classroom management strategies to minimize disruptions and maximize learning time.

Foster students’ social‑emotional development by integrating trauma‑informed practices and restorative justice approaches.

Collaborate with parents, guardians, and necessary stakeholders to address behavior concerns and support student growth.

Professional Development and School Collaboration

Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve your craft and stay up to date on educational best practices.

Contribute to schoolwide initiatives and collaborate with school staff on projects that support student achievement.

Attend faculty meetings, workshops, family engagement events and parent‑teacher conferences as required.

Serve on school committees and contribute to creating a positive school climate.

Qualifications – Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field

Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate

Missouri State Certification in subject area Mathematics (5‑9)

Strong understanding of curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management

Experience with or commitment to working in diverse, urban school environments

Preferred Qualifications

Proven ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse needs

Ability to use technology to enhance student learning and engagement

Experience with curriculum development and designing innovative lessons

Demonstrated ability to mentor students and foster a growth mindset

Collaborative approach to working with colleagues, administrators, and community members

Experience with leadership roles in schools, such as department lead or instructional coach

Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development

Willingness to embrace feedback and adapt to new teaching methodologies

Eagerness to be a part of a transformative school district that values continuous improvement

Physical Demands
This job requires that the employee be able to: sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers; bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds. Job requires the employee occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Terms of Employment
Length of work year: 10 months, 8 hours per day/ 5 days per week; 187 work days
