Job Description
Reports to: Athletic Director
Summary: The assistant coach works under the supervision of the head coach and Athletic Director, assisting in maximizing program efficiency within school rules and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Communicate clearly and effectively with student‑athletes.
Prioritise the health and safety of each participant while fostering a desire to win.
Understand year‑round responsibilities of the role.
Attend practice sessions, meetings, and other assignments directed by the head coach or Athletic Director.
Assist in‑game administration and management, following the head coach’s recommended techniques.
Accompany and supervise student‑athletes at sporting events within and beyond the state.
Provide supervised transport, locker‑room, gym, playing‑field, dining‑room, and dorm oversight during practices and participation.
Attend all meetings required by the head coach or Athletic Director.
Help supervise and instruct student‑athletes and managers in equipment and supply care, locker maintenance, towel and uniform washing, score keeping, and personal item security.
Promote good sportsmanship, safety, and the values of athletics and the school.
Assist caring for injured students on campus and accompany them to the Health Center as requested.
Report hazardous situations to the head coach or Athletic Director promptly.
Operate within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach.
Possibly drive state vehicle to away games if no bus driver is available.
Position‑Specific Qualifications
Superior knowledge of the sport and experience in coaching or teaching K‑12 student‑athletes.
Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
New Mexico Athletic Coach (7‑12) licence with the New Mexico Public Education Department, certification in First Aid and CPR, and certification in defensive driving.
