Janitor Position Overview
We offer part‑time and full‑time janitor positions for various shifts and locations at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.
Job Summary
Clean, care and maintain assigned buildings and areas, including public, patient care, and staff areas.
Perform daily cleaning tasks: mopping, buffing, waxing floors; washing corridors, stairs, walls, partitions; cleaning lavatories, rooms and other facilities.
Use hand‑operated equipment, detergents and cleaning products safely.
Ensure safety procedures are implemented and enforced; inspect areas and train staff as needed.
Lead or supervise cleaners, assign work, provide instructions and observe progress.
Assist in resolving work problems, coordinate special projects, and review work to ensure on‑time completion.
Stand, walk, bend, lift (moderate to heavy), climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds for extended periods.
Follow verbal and simple written instructions; maintain excellent customer service skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Physically able to perform the tasks: bending, lifting, climbing, standing and stooping for long periods.
Good verbal communication skills for exchanging information.
Strong leadership skills.
Must be able to read and write.
