Associate Legal Counsel – Commercial Transactions
Work Location:
This role works from our Akron, Ohio offices every Tuesday and Wednesday, and works other weekdays from a confidential remote home office.
Role Objective
Serve as a high-functioning key member of the legal team, acting as a proactive business partner to the enterprise. Support the development, promotion, and execution of thoughtful, prudent contracts. Prevent and mitigate enterprise risk exposure by combining skilled legal practice with strong business acumen. Help maintain a strong corporate presence through strategic collaboration with business teams. Provide solutions-oriented legal advice and advise senior management on legal issues.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Promote ethics and high standards of industry leadership to protect the company’s business reputation
Provide strategic legal and business counsel to leadership and business units
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts and strategic transactions
Translate complex legal theory and processes into clear, practical business and commercial terms
Identify, analyze, assess, and manage legal and enterprise risk; advise leaders on risks, responsibilities, rights, and privileges
Manage legal matters in accordance with company standards, principles, and practices
Interpret, monitor, and stay current on laws, regulations, and rulings impacting the company
Develop and implement policies and processes to ensure a compliant workplace
Monitor legal and regulatory compliance across applicable statutes and laws
Protect and promote intellectual property and confidential information
Examine legal data to determine the advisability of defending or prosecuting litigation
Analyze enterprise activities for risk implications and safeguard the company
Coordinate and manage outside counsel
Provide input into business strategy and tactics and demonstrate understanding of business objectives
Apply legal and technical expertise to solve complex business problems in support of organizational objectives
Education and Experience
Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active license to practice law required
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a corporate law firm or in‑house legal department, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Broad general legal background, including significant experience with commercial contracts and exposure to employee relations, intellectual property, and regulatory matters (e.g. FDA, EPA, EEO, OSHA)
Supervision/Coordination
Guidance and direction is provided by the Senior Legal Counsel
May coordinate projects or teams on an as‑needed basis
Coordinates with outside counsel
Influences stakeholders and others across the organization who do not report to the position
Travel Requirements
Overnight Travel - sporadic - required. Travel between campus locations in Northeast Ohio as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
The expected starting pay for this role is between $83,800.00 - $115,300.00 per year. Within this range, an offer will depend on factors such as level of experience and technical competencies relevant to this specific role, as well as internal equity considerations. In addition to base pay, all GOJO team members are bonus eligible. Benefits include 401(k) match, parental leave, and onsite wellbeing care.
