The Role
The Associate General Counsel – Commercial Transactions will serve as a primary legal advisor to Lumen’s Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain Management organization. This role is responsible for providing practical, risk-balanced legal advice across a wide range of complex commercial transactions that support Lumen’s global network, technology, products, and services.

The Associate General Counsel will partner closely with Strategic Sourcing and business stakeholders to enable efficient procurement, manage legal and regulatory risk, and support Lumen’s transformation initiatives. This position requires deep experience in commercial contracting, strong business judgment, and the ability to manage high-volume, high-impact transactions in a fast-paced environment.

The Main Responsibilities

Serve as a trusted legal advisor to Strategic Sourcing on legal, contractual, and risk considerations related to sourcing strategies and supplier relationships.

Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret a broad range of complex commercial agreements, including:

Master supply and services agreements

Statements of work and amendments

Software, SaaS, and technology license agreements

Professional services, consulting, and construction agreements

Equipment purchase and maintenance agreements

Support sourcing initiatives for network build, IT transformation, cloud services, and enterprise-wide vendor engagements.

Identify, evaluate, and manage legal risk related to procurement activities, including regulatory compliance, intellectual property, data security, export controls, and pricing considerations.

Advise on contract interpretation, performance issues, disputes, and supplier escalations; partner with internal stakeholders to resolve matters efficiently.

Collaborate with colleagues in Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Regulatory to provide coordinated support.

Drive continuous improvement of procurement contracting processes, templates, playbooks, and negotiation strategies.

Contribute to knowledge sharing and best practices within the Legal Department.

Operate as a business partner who understands Lumen’s objectives, risk tolerance, and operational realities while maintaining the highest standards of legal integrity.

Required

J.D. degree from an accredited law school.

Active license, in good standing, to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

8–10 years of legal practice with substantial experience in commercial contracts.

Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements with minimal supervision.

Proven ability to manage multiple high‑priority matters, exercise sound judgment, and deliver pragmatic legal solutions.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to advise stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Preferred

Experience supporting procurement or strategic sourcing organizations in a large, complex enterprise.

Background in technology, telecom, software licensing, or large‑scale services agreements.

Experience working in a fast‑paced environment undergoing transformation or growth.

Proactive, solution‑oriented mindset with strong collaboration and relationship‑management skills.

Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$159,670 - $212,893 in CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI

$167,273 - $223,031 in AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA
