Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The majority of the time is spent in critical care areas, performing protocol ventilator management, independent decision‑making, and self‑direction. The role also includes patient and family education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional self‑development.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service: complete patient care, documentation, and education.

Collaborate with the health‑care team in planning patient care.

Verify orders and administer aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy.

Perform ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheostomy tube change and care).

Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.

Educate patients and mentor or precept new employees, students, and peers.

Assist in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac services, and pulmonary diagnostic testing.

Promote current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging.

Promote patient safety (medication safety, NPSG, etc.) and performance‑improvement initiatives.

Follow all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Qualifications

0–2 years of clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care.

Ability to communicate well, think critically, and establish working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals.

Computer skills, including familiarity with databases.

Strong customer‑relations, assessment, and communication skills.

Essential Credentials

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Registrations: NBRC‑RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist), RCP (Respiratory Care Professional).

Preferred experience: 0–2 years clinical with a minimum of 6 months in critical care.
