Job Summary
Police Officer I duties include protecting life and property on the University of North Georgia’s Dahlonega campus. Responsibilities encompass professional response to prevent and detect crime, maintain law and order, patrol assigned areas, enforce traffic regulations, report accidents, investigate criminal activity, and act as a mandatory reporter for Clery Act crimes.
Responsibilities
Patrol campus areas on foot or in a vehicle to preserve law and order, prevent and discover crimes, enforce traffic regulations, and respond to emergencies.
Conduct investigations of criminal activities, collect and identify evidence, interview principals and witnesses, prepare cases, and testify in court.
Perform dispatcher duties, operating telephone and radio, and handle related clerical tasks efficiently.
Recover stolen property, provide public assistance, and conduct money escort duties.
Conduct safety presentations and training for the university community.
Perform other duties as assigned by superior officer.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Exemplary moral character suitable for law enforcement.
Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques.
Understanding of university properties, population, and traffic control concerns.
Ability to analyze situations quickly and determine appropriate action.
Poise and courtesy in handling situations while respecting others’ rights.
Calmness and rapid response under emergency conditions.
Effective interview, interrogation, and observational skills.
Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
Clear communication, both oral and written, with comprehensive reporting skills.
Proficiency in the use and maintenance of firearms.
Maintain positive public relations.
Meet physical fitness requirements.
Provide first aid and comfort in accident or illness situations.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License.
Georgia POST Law Enforcement Certification in good standing or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
Salary
Minimum starting salary: $23.53 per hour.
