Overview
HVAC Technician I

installs, operates and maintains the organization’s heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The HVAC Technician I is responsible for identifying repair and/or replacement needs, then completing installations and repairs. This position also conducts preventative maintenance and upgrades for HVAC systems and equipment. The HVAC Technician I assists associates within and outside of their trade.

St. Vincent's East Hospital- Birmingham, AL .

Responsibilities
Maintaining HVAC systems – 80%

Installs, inspects, maintains, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on all heating, air conditioning, ice making, refrigeration, and ventilation systems.

Maintains and applies current knowledge of steam distribution, piping, valves, chilled and hot water reheat systems and Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) operation.

Inspects HVAC systems and their components (e.g., heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.

Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for resolving immediate safety concerns.

Maintains knowledge of departmental equipment procedures for power outages.

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.

Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for ensuring availability in safe operating condition.

May coordinate, maintain and repair all energy management systems.

Special Projects – 20%

Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

Assists with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Must have one or more of the following:

High school Diploma or equivalent.

Graduate of trade school.

2 years’ relevant experience.

EPA license (level I).

Other equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.
