Position Summary
The Olympic Sports Athletic Trainer serves as a primary staff member within the Sports Medicine section of Campus Health. This position delivers comprehensive athletic training services to students, with primary responsibility for assigned intercollegiate athletic team(s). Key responsibilities include injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and referral, as well as emergency care response in alignment with established emergency action plans.
The position supports the academic and clinical education of undergraduate and graduate Athletic Training students in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and provides clinical instruction to residents, medical students, and affiliated allied health trainees. The role may also contribute to research initiatives conducted within the Sports Medicine Program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent). For candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) and at least one year of relevant experience will be accepted.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge and experience operating under the Athletic Trainer Licensure Act.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in Athletic Training.
Must possess a North Carolina Athletic Training License or have a North Carolina Athletic Training on the start date.
Must possess a Professional CPR certification.
Ability to develop and prepare emergency action plans.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Advanced master's degree or Advanced training at the Collegiate level.
Prefer 3 yrs experience as an Athletic Trainer at the Division 1A college level.
Additional certifications and skills are desirable in soft tissue modalities, dry needling, graston technique, and/or blood flow restriction.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
