Job Summary
This job assists in implementing child life services by providing divisional activities to help meet the developmental and social needs of patients and families.
Education
Required - High school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience
Required - None.
Certifications
Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
Good organizational skills.
Good time management skills.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and a professional relationship with patients and families.
Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.
Job Duties
Maintains playroom environment, cleans equipment, upholds guidelines, and stocks shelves.
Plans and implements age-appropriate activities for the playroom.
Provides activities to patients on isolation/bed rest as arranged with CLS.
Assists with facilitating community groups and special events.
Provides leadership and guidance for volunteers.
Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
Performs other related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Jobs are sedentary with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds. The role involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods. No exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue; no emergency care or first aid. No occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. Potential risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
