Summary

Responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and preparing samples, conducting experiments, and recording and analyzing data.

Essential Functions

Perform laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures.

Prepare and handle samples, reagents, and solutions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety guidelines.

Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, conducting routine calibration and troubleshooting as needed.

Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized records of procedures, protocols, and results.

Compile and analyze data using appropriate statistical and analytical methods.

Assist in data interpretation and presentation, contributing to research findings and reports.

Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.

Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.

Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.

Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

Assist in the execution of measurements in both a laboratory and clinical setting.

Assist in the building and testing of novel research instruments.

Conduct data analysis and processing using a variety of processing tools, generally implemented in the MATLAB environment.

Co‑ordinate recruitment and clinical measurements in conjunction with clinical collaborators. This includes communicating with study subjects.

Maintain research data, patient files, regulatory binders and study databases.

Prepare reports and presentations.

Participate in preparing manuscripts for publication.

Prepare IRB submissions and amendments and help maintaining documentation for the IRB.

Collecting and maintain subject information database.

Proof‑reading and editing of manuscripts and grant applications.

Skills & Competencies Required

Prior programming experience is preferred, prior experience with MATLAB is a plus; note that a data analysis exercise in Matlab or another language of the candidate’s choice might be included as part of the interview process.

An engineering or physical science background is preferred, but candidates with a background in biology, chemistry or medicine who have an interest in transitioning to biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply.

Ability to make independent effective decisions.

The ability to work with minimal supervision as well as part of an integrated research team.

Excellent judgment and ability to interpret information and protocol requirements.

Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Detail oriented, creative, able to maintain accurate records.

High degree of professionalism, ability to interact with study subject and clinical collaborators.

Capable of handling confidential information with discretion.

Able to prioritize multiple tasks and handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
