School Counselor
(Grades K-6)

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the building principal, the School Counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program that supports students in academic achievement, career awareness, and social-emotional development. The counselor serves as a resource for students, families, and staff while helping create a safe and supportive learning environment.
What You'll Do / Essential Functions
Provide individual and small group counseling to support students' social-emotional and behavioral needs
Assist students in developing skills in self-management, decision-making, and goal setting
Support academic planning and student success strategies
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to address student needs
Participate in problem-solving teams and student support meetings
Serve as a liaison between school, families, and community resources
Coordinate with the school social worker to connect outside resources
Assist in crisis response and student support as needed
Maintain accurate and confidential student records
Promote a positive and inclusive school culture
Encourage family engagement and communication
Participate in ongoing professional learning
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or district administration.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Knowledge of school counseling principles, child/adolescent development, and social-emotional learning
Understanding of behavior supports and intervention strategies
Knowledge of data systems and student progress monitoring
Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
Strong organization, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Commitment to continuous professional growth
Physical and Mental Demands
Work is performed in a standard school and office environment
Licensure / Endorsement Requirements
Preferred candidates will hold or be working toward:
Professional School Counselor K-8 - 172
Professional School Counselor 5-12 - 173
Candidates who are eligible for licensure or are currently completing an approved preparation program are encouraged to apply.
