Job Description
A journeyman Mechanic performs quality maintenance, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, disassembly, inspections, rebuilds, and reassembly on diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated components and equipment such as engines, power trains, hydraulics, fuel systems, power generation, electrical codes, and more. This work covers all mining equipment including jumbo drills, haul trucks, bolters, loaders, dozers, as well as mobile equipment, hoists, compressors, drills and related machinery.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions using service manuals, parts books, electrical and hydraulic manuals.
Perform preventative maintenance, general/major maintenance, diagnostics, inspections, disassembly and reassembly per shop work orders.
Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
Operate forklifts, aerial lifts, service trucks, and other related equipment.
Apply underground mobile equipment braking regulations, testing, and adjustments.
Comply with all Redpath USA Corporation and owners’ safety regulations and procedures.
Safely move and operate mine equipment during servicing.
Apply confined space, fall protection, equipment isolation and basic welding standards.
Order parts accurately and complete required paperwork.
Ensure planned maintenance follows the maintenance schedule.
Perform basic welding and cutting as needed.
Conduct emergency repairs in a safe, timely manner.
Maintain availability and serviceability of spares and tools.
Keep work areas safe, perform Field Level Risk Assessments, and follow safety procedures to control equipment damage.
Comprehend written and verbal instructions for efficient duty execution.
Comply with daily, weekly, monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
Maintain confidentiality of company and client information.
Adhere to company policies, handbooks, directives, SOPs, and core competencies.
Work overtime, shift rotations, weekends, holidays, and night shifts as required.
Recognize this list as representative of the role; additional duties may be assigned.
Education
High School, GED, and/or higher education.
Recognized trade certificate in maintenance or repair preferred.
Qualifications
Documented maintenance experience of at least 5 years with heavy equipment maintenance of mining equipment (haul trucks, dozers, jumbo drills, hydraulic shovels, motor graders, front‑end loaders, etc.).
Minimum 2 years of experience in underground mining.
Full working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Eligibility to operate company vehicles and possession of a current State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Computer proficiency and related software usage.
Ability to read and understand service manuals, technical bulletins, schematics, and electrical drawings.
Strong knowledge of braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, payload systems, compressed air systems, engine tune‑ups, electronic engine controls, drive trains and electric haul truck braking/dynamic systems.
Proficiency with engine/powertrain diagnostic software (handheld and computer‑based).
Excellent communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
Meticulous attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Other Requirements
Pass background clearance check, drug screening, and physical examination.
Must own a basic set of hand tools up to a two‑inch minimum.
Prepare written reports and correspondence.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Participate in a team environment with minimal supervision.
