Position : Veterinary Technician II
Salary Range : $27-$32/hour
Location : 3566 Corporate Ct San Diego, CA 92123

This is a contract role, paid for hours worked, and we expect the position to last 60-90 days.
Job Overview
As the Contract Veterinary Technician II you will provide critical veterinary support for in vivo research models used to evaluate therapeutics and medical devices across multiple indications. You will bring hands‑on experience with anesthesia, dosing, and biological sampling across multiple species, and will support the Attending Veterinarian in maintaining high standards of animal care and study execution.
Key Responsibilities
Perform veterinary duties with minimal supervision in support of the Attending Veterinarian, including assessing animal health, pain, and wellbeing across multiple species
Conduct physical exams, monitor vital signs, and manage daily care and observation of laboratory animals
Handle, restrain, and provide care for various species while ensuring proper documentation of routine veterinary care
Accurately calculate, administer, and track medications, including controlled substances
Collect biological specimens (e.g., blood samples) using appropriate techniques
Administer and monitor anesthesia, provide thermal support, and oversee recovery
Assist with surgical procedures, including preparation, aseptic technique, and basic suturing
Respond to emergencies and provide veterinary care with minimal supervision
Perform study‑related procedures in compliance with protocols, SOPs, GLPs, and company policies
Prepare for studies, including documentation, labeling, and room setup
Maintain accurate records, ensure quality control standards are met, and support colony health surveillance activities
Collaborate cross‑functionally with veterinary staff, study teams, and operational partners to support research and laboratory objectives
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years' relevant industry or veterinary experience
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field desirable
Certification as a registered veterinarian technician (RVT) or AALAS certification preferred
Extensive hands‑on experience with anesthesia, dosing, and sampling techniques across multiple animal species required
Experience in a veterinary or laboratory research environment strongly preferred
Knowledge of GLP standards and laboratory compliance practices
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast‑paced environment
Strong communication skills and a proactive, adaptable work style
Willingness to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis
Ability to travel between site locations as needed
Physical capability to stand/walk for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 15 kg
Must be able to squat, kneel, and perform hands‑on animal care tasks
