Position Summary
The Dairy Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the dairy department to ensure high standards of product quality, inventory accuracy, merchandising, and customer service. This role leads department associates, manages ordering and shrink, and maintains strict temperature and food safety compliance while driving sales and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Department Operations & Execution
Manage daily dairy department operations including ordering, stocking, rotation, and merchandising
Ensure proper temperature control, date rotation, and product integrity at all times
Maintain accurate inventory levels, backstock organization, and effective shrink control
Ensure dairy cases, coolers, and backroom areas are clean, organized, and compliant
Merchandising & Sales
Execute planograms, ads, promotions, and seasonal resets
Ensure dairy cases are full, faced, and visually appealing
Monitor sales trends and adjust ordering to meet customer demand
Support company initiatives to drive dairy category performance
Team Leadership & Development
Hire, train, coach, and develop dairy department associates
Assign daily tasks and ensure efficient labor utilization
Provide performance feedback, recognition, and corrective coaching
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and food safety
Food Safety, Safety & Compliance
Enforce food safety practices including temperature logs and cooler monitoring
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and health regulations
Support audits, inspections, and corrective actions
Train associates on proper handling of perishable products and equipment
Labor, Planning & Communication
Manage department labor to align with sales volume and workload demands
Communicate priorities, performance results, and challenges to store leadership
Maintain required documentation and operational records
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Previous dairy, grocery, or retail department management experience preferred
Knowledge of inventory management, food safety, and merchandising standards
Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, cold-environment setting
Flexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
