This position is for a Mechanical Engineering Manager in the Post Boost Control System (PBCS) IPT that both collaborates well in a team environment and has excellent communication skills. In this role, you will have numerous opportunities to represent the PBCS IPT with our Navy partner, LM leadership, and suppliers, with many opportunities for career development along the way. The PBCS IPT is responsible for the development, manufacture, and management of the PBCS which is an attitude control and propulsive subsystem.
As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to lead our PBCS Design and Analysis Team. Specifically, you will be responsible for managing the engineers on the team, developing the team's technical skills, and ensuring technical excellence for all products developed by the team. The team is currently broken into two teams, design- which is responsible for 3‑D models and analysis- which performs physics‑based models in Simulink, Stress, Thermal, and Fluids. In this role you will ensure these teams support the IPTs while also ensuring all work products meet applicable requirements before releasing work. You will manage a team of 20+ with two Asc. Managers reporting to yourself.
The successful candidate will become a full spectrum leader, build lasting partnerships with our Navy counterparts, focus on financial and strategic objectives, and work closely with a range of other leaders on FBM. The candidate will be expected to aid in the hiring process as the team grows. It will be critical to build a team culture focused on meeting program commitments while maintaining technical discipline.
Responsibilities
Strategic Vision & Roadmap – Define and execute a multi‑year PBCS strategy aligned with LE and LE-2 goals.
Leadership & Talent Management – Lead a cross‑functional team of approximately 20 professionals (engineers, analysts, project managers, designers). Recruit, develop, and retain top talent; foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Stakeholder Alignment – Serve as the senior liaison between business units; translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure stakeholder buy‑in throughout the project lifecycle.
Program & Portfolio Management – Oversee a portfolio of PBCS projects (implementation, migration, upgrade, reporting automation); ensure delivery on schedule, scope, and cost.
Innovation & Technology Integration – Evaluate emerging technologies (AI/ML forecasting, robotic process automation, cloud‑native analytics) and integrate them into the PBCS ecosystem where appropriate.
Vendor Management – Manage relationships with outside customers.
Lead a team of motivated individuals in the development of an attitude control propulsion subsystem.
Lead a team in development of a high profile proposal.
Enhance cross discipline product development.
Participate in mentorship opportunities and professional development.
Be the cost & schedule interface to FBM management and our Navy counterparts.
Qualifications
Experience in Engineering Development (SRR/PDR/CDR)
Experience in engineering analysis and/or design
Demonstrated team leadership or prior management experience
Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD TOP SECRET
Technical degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education
Missile and/or aerospace related education or experience
Experience Satellite or Missile Propulsion
Prior management experience
Experience with FBM processes and products
Demonstrated behaviors of a systems thinker; selects and applies appropriate systems thinking skills to solve very sophisticated problems and implement constructive change
Risk and opportunity experience with an understanding of continuous improvement concepts
Experience in areas of cost analysis, schedule, and risk & opportunity management
Ability to navigate a diverse environment and build consensus across functional boundaries.

Clearance

Work Conditions
Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full‑time. The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off.
Benefits & Compensation
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $122,900 - $216,660. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
