Position Summary
The Buyer reports directly to the Purchasing Manager and is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and monitoring department purchase requisitions for proposer authorization, specifications, and takes responsibility for procuring appropriate items or services. The Buyer may perform a variety of tasks in accordance with their training, experience, and skill.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Managing and resolving all discrepancies including receiving, accounts payable, and non‑conforming material
Establishing new supplier relationships and negotiating payment terms (Net 30/60/90, etc.)
Ensuring purchase orders are confirmed and arrive on scheduled dates
Maintaining the integrity of all purchase orders entered into the ERP system
Maintaining current supply sources and supplier relationships: develop new supply sources when suppliers are inadequate to meet company timing or quality requirements
Coordinating service requirements with internal customers
Tracking delinquent arrivals from purchase orders
Qualifications Required / Job Specifications
Three (3) years’ experience as a Buyer in a NPI contract manufacturing environment consisting of PCBA and Mechanical assemblies
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Understanding of the competitive dynamics in electronic manufacturing services and NPI process
Strong negotiating skills
Knowledge of ISO procedures and ability to maintain quality records and execute ISO activities
Proficiency with PC-based software including SAP and Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel
Strong effective organizational skills; detail oriented; ability to multitask
Self-directed, dependable, and motivated with excellent relationship and time‑management skills
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees
High level of integrity in handling confidential and sensitive information
Availability to work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks, including potential odd‑hour teleconferences with global facilities
Decision Making Authority
Use common sense to solve practical problems
Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form
Use a wide range of evidence from diverse sources to identify problems, understand them, and develop effective solutions
