Position Overview
The
Fleet Maintenance Manager
oversees the repair, preventative maintenance, and safety compliance of company vehicles (trucks and trailers) to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency. Key responsibilities include managing technician teams, controlling maintenance budgets and inventory, scheduling repairs, and ensuring DOT compliance.
Responsibilities
Preventative Maintenance (PM) Scheduling: Develop and implement schedules to reduce downtime and prevent failures.
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor technicians and mechanics.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and safety regulations.
Budgeting & Cost Control: Manage repair expenses, parts inventory, and fuel consumption to optimize costs.
Vendor Management: Negotiate with suppliers for parts and external repairs.
Diagnostic & Repairs: Oversee technical repairs of diesel, gas, or alternative fuel vehicles.
Data Analysis: Use fleet management software to track vehicle performance and maintenance history.
Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
Required Education And Experience
High School diploma or GED required; technical certification in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive repair, with a focus on medium-duty diesel engines.
Previous experience in a fleet supervisory role is preferred.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Team leader – ability to develop and motivate a high-performing team, successfully coordinating people and resources.
Effective and timely verbal and non-verbal communication a must.
Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong knowledge of automotive systems, diesel engines, diagnostic procedures and vehicle repair.
Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Familiarity with federal and state safety regulations for vehicle maintenance.
Requires following strict safety protocols and ability to ensure all applicable safety practices are in place and followed.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow directions.
