Summary
The Patient Services Representative performs scheduling and registration, verifies eligibility and obtains authorization for ambulatory appointments, procedures, or surgery scheduling in support of the patients' care needs. He/She is responsible for completing the patient registration in a timely and accurate manner to minimize interruption to patients' care.

Responsibilities

Schedules and reschedules routine and non-routine medical services for the assigned patient population.

Coordinates scheduling and referrals to other healthcare providers and services.

Confirms daily data entry of medical appointments, special instructions, patient information/jurisdiction, and pre/postoperative or procedure instructions.

Performs scheduling and registration, verifies eligibility and obtains authorizations for ambulatory appointments, procedures, or surgery scheduling.

Performs insurance verification, identifies pre-certification requirements for ambulatory appointments, and obtains and documents pre‑certification/authorizations prior to appointment.

Secures all demographic and financial information including Medicare/Medicaid, Third Party Liability (TPL), and Workers Compensation; verifies and/or notifies insurance company; completes cash deposits (co‑pays, deductibles, self‑pay); explains and answers registration questions on demand.

Obtains and verifies required pre‑certification/authorizations for any scheduled outpatient procedure or surgery.

Schedules procedures or surgeries as the patients' care plan dictates.

Communicates closely with patients throughout the care delivery process regarding insurance, co‑pays, deductibles, authorizations, procedure or surgery dates, appointments, etc.

Transcribes orders.

Performs a variety of administrative duties including answering phones, faxing, filing confidential documents, and basic Internet and email utilization.

Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.

Works closely with the back office/medical assistant team and provider(s) to maximize the patients' care experience.

Education & Qualifications

High School diploma or GED

Minimum 6 months of experience required; 1 year preferred

Required Competency

Expert in scheduling and rescheduling of all routine and non‑routine medical services for the assigned patient population.

Proficient in coordinating scheduling and referrals to other healthcare providers and services.
