Laboratory Technician

Job Summary
The Zhu lab in the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center is seeking a lab technician who will assist in research procedures involving mouse genotyping and basic metabolic phenotyping (e.g. body weight, blood glucose), as well as cellular and molecular biology techniques such as ELISA, western blot, immunohistochemistry, and cell culture. Self‑motivation, passion and dedication for science, organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills are essential. The employee will perform and co‑ordinate multiple lab tasks with their fellows on a daily basis and will also ensure maintenance of lab supplies, equipment and proper disposal of all materials.

Shift
Primarily day shift. Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Some evenings and weekends may be required due to experimentation.

Physical Requirements
Moving and lifting objects from the floor to above the shoulders up to 25 pounds. Standing and sitting at computer terminals and laboratory bench completing repetitive tasks for extensive periods of time. Continuous work with materials requiring personal protective equipment in accord with EH&S policy.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Mouse handling, pipetting, MS Office including Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and experience working in a research laboratory.
