Job Description
Under general supervision, works alone or with a crew to install and maintain electric distribution and transmission systems, including all overhead, underground facilities and other utilities; installs but does not connect gas pipe.

Responsibilities
Performs the duties of Electric Service Technician, Utility Operator and Meter Utility Person. Performs all work safely and in compliance with applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures. Installs, changes, transfers, moves and removes poles, pole‑line hardware, guys, transformers, lightning arresters, street‑light equipment, electrical cable, gas pipe, cross‑arms, energized conductors, insulators, conduit, capacitor bank controls, and any electrical material and accessories used in the construction, maintenance, and operation of electric circuits. Uses protective equipment and devices on energized electric circuits of all voltages, works with hot‑line tools, performs steel tower structural work including erection, removal, and repair of towers and associated equipment, and operates electrical instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters and fault locators. Reads meters, operates switches and cutouts in transmission and distribution circuits, patrols circuits, inspects poles and towers, drives truck and is responsible for truck, tools and equipment. Locates underground gas and electric facilities and performs locates where no locator or leak surveyors exist. Contacts property owners on tree‑trimming matters, performs minor tree trimming, cutting brush and removal of line detriments as necessary. Completes written reports on fieldwork and accounts for materials and time. Performs public contacts when necessary and leads, trains and instructs employees in switching. Installs, removes, changes and turns on or off existing meters of the following classes: sets voltage recording devices, single and three‑phase self‑contained meters through Class 320, network meters through Class 320, changes bill‑group on demand meters as needed (excluding types requiring programming). Performs duties in company and customer substations to restore service and perform diagnostics, including switching, analyzing relay targets, amp and voltage readings, breaker/recloser counts or values, voltage regulator information, load tap changer information, and related work. Operates substation equipment, opens and closes breakers and reclosers, operates load tap changers and voltage regulator controls, installs fuses and performs related restoration operations.

Qualifications

Class “A” CDL required.

Pipeline/Hwy Alcohol & Drug Testing; CIP certification.

Must be an experienced journeyworker, with at least four years related experience, including installing overhead and underground utilities, installing poles and steel tower structures, and related hardware.

Current journeyworker card/certificate/license and/or evidence of satisfactorily completing an apprenticeship training program preferred.
