Phlebotomist
to join the team of medical professionals in the Alabama Department of Corrections – St. Clair in Springville, AL.
As a Phlebotomist, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the patients, making a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex needs.
Responsibilities
Collects blood and other specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, and proper handling to maintain specimen integrity.
Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on patients, adhering to safety protocols.
Labels specimens accurately, processes them for testing, and operates centrifuges.
Verifies patient identity, explains procedures to reduce anxiety, and ensures patient comfort.
Cleans and sterilizes equipment, restocks supplies, and manages hazardous waste according to OSHA/CLIA standards.
Enters patient information and test orders into databases and requisitions.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Completion of a phlebotomy technician training program.
Proficiency in blood collection techniques, strong communication, and attention to detail.
Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred).
Able to work independently and in a team.
Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/ or confidential information and demonstrate integrity, professionalism and adherence to a Code of Conduct.
Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening.
Working Conditions
Must have the physical and mental capacity to work in an environment that may be less than pristine, as well as manage and maintain physical and mental health when encountering stressful situations.
