Position Summary
Veterinary Assistant responsible for supporting both Large and Small Animal Anesthesia and for assisting in the Operating Room (OR), Interventional Radiology (IR), and Endoscopy on a rotational basis. Duties include preparation of surgical instruments, patient preparation, and cleanup.
Minimum Qualifications
Technical knowledge in veterinary field acquired through apprenticeship, 2‑year degree, or professional certificate.
Ability to handle and restrain various species of animals.
Effective communication and organizational skills.
Good judgement and problem‑solving ability.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with animal care within a Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Duties & Responsibilities
Anesthesia (25% of time)
Maintain cleanliness and stock of small animal anesthesia prep areas and recovery.
Clean cages, endotracheal tubes, and monitor cords; organize lock‑er space.
Set up and dispose anesthesia case stations; transfer patients to recovery.
Assist in anesthesia case management: restrain patients, apply monitoring equipment, record vitals under supervision.
Assist LVTs and DVMs in large animal anesthesia: clean prep area, manage stalls, stock cart, record vitals, and recover patients.
OR/Floater (50% of time)
Maintain cleanliness and stock of small animal OR, endoscopy, IR, and procedure rooms.
Ensure cleaning lists are completed and perform setup/cleanup after procedures.
Assist with stock and testing for expired supplies; circulate surgery cases.
Assist in setting up, draping, and scrubbing into cases.
Shave and prep patients for anesthesia prior to procedures.
Endoscopy/Interventional Radiology (time not specified)
Set up scope for procedure and perform scope cleaning.
Physical Demands & Other Requirements
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Stand, sit, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently on hard floor surfaces.
Manual dexterity for handling small equipment.
Wear protective gear: mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles.
Ability to work for long periods with arms extended.
Must have direct patient care responsibilities.
Position of trust with security access.
