Canon City, Colorado
Type of Position
Part‑time (20 hours per week). After‑hours and/or weekends available.
Description of Job
Provide after‑hours mental health care, including crisis assessment and response, to inmates with mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and high suicide risk.
Coordinate with staff for mental health needs beyond normal business hours and provide direct care during psychiatric emergencies.
Develop and implement individual mental health treatment plans.
Deliver individual and group therapy sessions.
Conduct mental health assessments and interviews to monitor progress.
Update diagnoses and psychiatric needs levels.
Refer inmates to psychology services for complex assessments.
Communicate client history and treatment information to psychiatry.
Arrange emergency and non‑emergency transfers for acute mental health crises.
Contact on‑call psychiatric provider for medication needs.
Maintain electronic health records in compliance with agency standards.
Provide clinical guidance to non‑clinical staff.
Ensure continuity of care through referrals and documentation for unit, facility, or agency transitions.
Minimum Qualifications
Current, valid license in Colorado for one of the following professions:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW)
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Licensed Psychologist
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)
One (1) year of licensed or license‑candidate experience with mental health and/or sex offender populations.
Required Competencies
Ability to remain calm, alert, and resilient in stressful or potentially violent situations.
Strong crisis assessment and counseling skills using established protocols.
Effective communication with offenders; excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in English reading, speaking, and writing.
Knowledge of agency security policies and crisis intervention methods.
Professional interpersonal skills and empathy.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience counseling inmates and conducting suicide risk assessments.
Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
