
CDOC (HP VI) - MH Program Manager / Assistant Internship Coord (HYBRID)

Position Overview.
This appointment provides operational and supervisory oversight of mental health staff at the Sterling Correctional Facility, including After Hours Crisis/Weekend Assessment Clinicians, and functions as the master’s‑level mental health internship coordinator. Responsibilities include delivering mental health services to offenders, consulting with correctional staff and administrators on behavioral health needs, providing training and supervision, managing psychiatric crises, and coordinating institutional care of mentally ill offenders and other special‑needs populations.

Hybrid Work Arrangement
Eligible for a hybrid workplace; partly remote (work from home or travel to other facilities) and partly in‑office at the CDOC headquarters.
Responsibilities
Enhance and expand the scope of the master’s‑level mental health internship program in collaboration with the doctoral internship coordinator and behavioral health program administrators.
Offer supplemental clinical supervision to interns and ensure site supervisors deliver direct, consistent clinical supervision.
Track and organize training for site supervisors, maintaining affiliation agreements with colleges and universities.
Directly accountable for daily administration of mental health services and establishing systems for care coordination among the multidisciplinary team.
Provide clinical supervision and direction for mental health staff in accordance with licensing and accrediting standards.
Direct management of psychiatric crises and emergencies.
Serve as the master’s‑level internship coordinator, liaising between local schools and CDOC.
Organize, maintain, and update the mental health on‑call schedule in partnership with the Mental Health Program Administrator.
Collaborate with the Mental Health Program Administrator to ensure comprehensive program development in general‑population facilities.
Collaborate with Parole Mental Health to provide clinical consultation and service coordination for community transition plans.
Participate with the mental health management team to resolve issues and develop policy, clinical standards, and procedures.
Work with the mental health trainer to keep training materials up‑to‑date with evidence‑based practices.
Ensure staff compliance with the offender grievance process.
Coordinate with multiple CDOC staff to provide clinical supervision training courses to meet staff needs.
Serve as a certified trainer for the Colorado Training Academy and maintain trainer credentials.
Provide clinical guidance to interns and supervise internship performance, reporting progress to the school program.
Provide regular training to mental health program supervisors and staff; analyze system gaps and present recommendations to improve accessibility of treatment for offenders.
Evaluate professional performance and participate in personnel actions related to professional practice.
Offer at least one hour of group clinical supervision per week to the facility mental health team.
Provide clinical and operational supervision to After Hours Crisis/Weekend Assessment Clinicians.
Participate in a 24‑hour Mental Health On‑Call Consultation rotation.
Assure emergency and non‑emergency transfer for offenders experiencing acute mental health needs.
Ensure continuity of care by making referrals and providing necessary documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies.
Develop a structured master’s‑level internship training program in conjunction with the Doctoral Internship Training Coordinator and Mental Health Administrator.
Process all master’s‑level internship applications and update the associated tracker.
Coordinate regularly with internship site supervisors to ensure students complete required training and receive appropriate clinical supervision.
Offer direct clinical supervision to interns assigned to the hybrid (onsite/telehealth) internship program.
Minimum Qualifications
At least nine (9) years of professional experience providing direct behavioral health or managing patient care in a clinic that provided mental and/or behavioral health services.
Special Qualifications
Valid Colorado licenses: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
Substitutions
Combination of relevant education from an accredited institution and professional experience equal to nine (9) years may substitute for experience; no substitution for the licensing requirement.

Experience providing operational oversight of a multidisciplinary health care program with mental/behavioral health services.
Fiscal and budgetary experience.
Experience in a correctional environment.
