Role Mission
The Food Service Specialist ensures that appropriate quantities of food are prepared, portioned, and served to IDEA students. Other responsibilities include cutting/chopping fruits & vegetables, following recipes, adhering to established kitchen processes, monitoring students during meal periods (e.g., ensuring appropriate behavior, encouraging consumption of fresh fruit & vegetables, preventing food sharing), and kitchen cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, and disposing of trash.
Responsibilities
Prepare, portion, and serve meals to students.
Cut and chop fruits and vegetables in accordance with recipes.
Follow kitchen processes and sanitation practices.
Monitor student behavior during meal periods and encourage healthy eating habits.
Clean kitchen area, sweep, mop, wipe tables, wash dishes, and dispose of trash.
Move cafeteria tables daily and dispose of garbage.
Compensation
Hourly rate ranging between $15.00 for 0 years of experience and $17.25.
Eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.

Qualifications
High School Diploma Preferred (Not Required).
1+ year of experience with physical activity or standing for multiple hours a day.
Food Handler’s Permit (City/County) preferred.
Accountabilities
Basic knowledge or rapid learning of food production processes.
Handle cooking, cleaning, restocking, and resetting kitchen for next day.
Meet physical demands of job (lifting, bending, walking).
Provide service to students.
Read and execute recipes accurately.
Handle medium to large equipment such as ovens, slicers, steamers.
Use basic math for portioning items in small trays.
Adapt quickly to role changes (serving food to washing dishes).
Take direction and feedback well, self‑reflect and correct mistakes.
Work with academic calendar: manage breaks, 8‑hour school days, occasional overtime, Saturdays if needed.
