Job Overview
Community Disaster Program Specialist. Guides, leads, and supports teams of trained volunteers to deliver comfort and care in times of disaster. Builds continuous volunteer engagement and ensures community readiness.

Regional disaster employees must deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at least once a year. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Key Responsibilities

Empower Volunteers: Facilitate and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for implementing volunteer‑led disaster cycle services programming and ensuring services are delivered rapidly, accessibly, and equitably.

Support the Program: Assist with the successful implementation of specific disaster cycle services program activities or functions within an assigned geographic area.

Mission Capacity Building: Engage disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce and representative of the communities they serve.

Engage Community: Support local efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners for disaster response and recovery.

Manage in a Matrix: Implement plans to meet assigned targets for volunteer engagement and volunteer‑led Disaster Action Team response within the assigned area.

Know Your Communities: Act as the local point of contact for partners and communities, partnering with local organizations and leaders before, during, and after disasters.

Ready to Respond: Participate in disaster response operations in the region upon completion of training requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience.

Driver’s License: A current valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.

Required Skills and Abilities

Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Record of collaboration with diverse groups and individual community members, managing multiple priorities, facilitating, problem‑solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Ability to work outside regular duty hours, including nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Volunteer Engagement: Demonstrated ability to inspire and coordinate volunteers.

Community Engagement: Proven experience building strong relationships with diverse community groups.

Excellent Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Microsoft Office Proficiency: Skilled in MS Office Suite.

Physical Requirements
The employee must sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 15 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment includes moderate noise, small cubicle, and extended computer use.

Compensation
Salary range: $54,000.00 - $55,175.00. Salaries are aligned to specific geographic locations and may be influenced by skills, experience, and comparison to other employees in this role.
