The Histology Technician plays a vital role in supporting accurate dermatologic diagnosis by preparing high-quality histologic slides for microscopic examination. This position works closely with the Histology Manager, Pathologist, and clinical teams to ensure precision, efficiency, and compliance throughout all phases of laboratory testing. The role focuses on tissue preparation, staining, and quality control within a fast-paced dermatology laboratory setting. This position is essential to delivering timely, accurate results that directly impact patient care.
Schedule: MondayFriday, 12:00 PM 8:30 PM (Evening Shift) No weekends or holidays. Hours may be negotiable based on candidate availability.
Qualifications for Histology Technician - Evening Shift

Associate degree in Histology or related laboratory science (in compliance with CLIA 493.1489), including completion of an approved histology internship
Minimum of 1 year of histology technician experience
Strong attention to detail with excellent fine motor skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
Basic computer proficiency and effective communication skills
Ability to follow all safety, compliance, and organizational policies
HT or HTL (ASCP) certification (or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire)
Dermatology and/or Mohs histology experience
Experience with immunohistochemistry and special stains
Responsibilities

Prepare high-quality histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis
Perform embedding, microtomy, cutting, staining, and tissue preservation with precision
Conduct H&E staining and prepare special stains, including immunohistochemistry
Receive, accession, label, and track tissues, slides, and cassettes accurately
Perform dermatology-specific grossing and Mohs tissue mapping
Ensure proper tissue orientation, minimal artifact creation, and optimal microtomy technique
Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and inventory
Monitor quality control processes and comply with CLIA, OSHA, and HIPAA standards
Troubleshoot staining, processing, and equipment issues as needed
Collaborate closely with the Histology Manager, Pathologist, and clinical teams
Maintain accuracy and efficiency across pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases
Perform additional duties as assigned
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This role is performed in a laboratory setting within a dermatology clinic and may include travel to other locations as needed.
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while embedding, cutting, and staining tissue
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and use of hands for fine motor tasks
Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds
Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
